somewhere... deep in the jungle

am totally jealous of charlotte rust's indoor plants
as seen here on the garden edit journal.
just getting started myself... it sure is addictive.
look at those donkey tails!

dolce

figs from my mothers garden.
last evening we watched the finches, thrushes and mynas
eating all the fruit she couldn't reach.
the birds were giggling!

verveine

coddling the lemon verbena
(the very best tisane)
so that there will be lots of leaves
for the cooler months ahead.

turning

growing tomatoes is something of a blood-sport in my family.
in mid-spring, labour weekend marks the start of the season.
the progress of the various crops is then reported
when they are hip-height and when the first flowers appear.
one family member, a former surgeon, was once accused of feeding his tomatoes steroids.

there is the ritual of wandering into the garden in the morning or at dusk, clutching a cup of tea,
pausing and simply gazing on one's plants, simply gazing...

the most important thing, is to always have a glass of white wine in one hand while gardening...
